Our reusable beeswax wraps!

During week 2, we noticed that there was A LOT of rubbish that was floating around the school. We saw chip packets, glad wrap, snack bags and much more. As a class we came together and had a huge discussion about what we could do as a class, to reduce our own rubbish. We decided to create reusable beeswax wraps to reduce our plastic waste!
Come on in and read our amazing persuasive writing pieces, on why we should use reusable beeswax wraps. We have researched and thought of some very interesting reasons!

Come and read our persuasive writing! Open to find our reusable wraps inside!

Our furry visitors!

Today we were lucky to have Michelle and Laura come in from Kids Safe With Dogs to teach us how to be safe around dogs.
We were able to meet Chase and Keira who were so well behaved! They even let us pat them.

We learnt some golden rules for approaching dogs, these are:
1.) Always ask the owner first if you can pat their dog, they might not be friendly.
2.) When patting the dog, only touch their back or sides. They don't enjoy their faces, tails, or legs being played with.
3.)If a dog is eating, sleeping, waiting for their owner or working it is not okay to go up too them and play. This might upset them or distract them.
4.) Stand still like a tree if you are nervous about a dog running up to you. Stop and stand still, wrap your arms around you like branches and hold your elbows. Keep quiet and stare at your roots (look at the floor). The dog will get bored and will walk away.

Here are some photos from our session today!

Look at our awesome post cards to our partner class in Wellington!

Room 14 signed up to the Get Writing NZ Programme. We were able to find lots of information about our own school and the people in our class! We wrote our own metaphors describing ourselves on a postcard, so Birchville School in Wellington could get to know us.
We waited patiently each day for our postcards to arrive from Wellington to read. Here is our beautiful work before we sent it on the courier and here is Room 14 working together to put our postcard artwork together from our partner class.
